Wilson Bridge/South Park  Recreation Area

As you may have read about in the news, Teton County and the Town of Jackson are evaluating a proposal to use specific-purpose excise tax, or SPET, revenue to pay for improvements at the Wilson Bridge Recreation Area. The plan envisions a public park with an improved boat ramp, additional parking, pathway access, green space and a protected eddy for swimming. The project would be coordinated with the pathway bridge proposed for the same location.
The Snake River Fund strongly supports this proposal.

Snake River Parcels Project

The Fund is currently working with the Bureau of Land Management to fuel the implementation planning for their 2004 Snake River Management Plan. The Plan calls for the transfer of ownership/management of their Teton County holdings– all of which are river front. Working with other federal and local public agencies and non-governmental organizations, the Fund seeks to find management solutions that will insure public recreational access and habitat and resource conservation on these parcels.

Wild & Scenic creeks and rivers in Snake Headwaters Watershed

Wild & Scenic Designation

The Campaign is a coalition of groups, of which the Snake River Fund is one, that is seeking designation of the headwaters of the Snake River in Wyoming as Wild and Scenic. Over 500 stream miles are eligible and include some of the healthiest, most pristine, most diverse water ways in the country. Working with local and national organizations, community businesses and private river users from around the region and the country, the Campaign hopes to see this legislation introduced for congressional session 2006. Ongoing Work and Programs

River Personnel! The Fund supplies monies for River Rangers and a river volunteer program. These folks are at the river daily through the high season to ensure our visitors safety and fun. They are trained in first aid, AED use, river rescue and help guide traffic, answer questions, inflate and move rafts. They also monitor and maintain the restrooms, trails and boat ramps.

Resource Protection and Restoration Projects! The Fund puts its financial resources towards our natural resources. On the ground projects like garbage removal, restrooms and recycling reduce non-point source pollution. Trail building and maintenance reduces erosion, sediment overload and spread of invasive vegetation. Ramp maintenance reduces erosion and helps to stabilize surrounding stream bank structures.

Education and Stewardship! The Fund participates in several events throughout the season. The Summit on the Snake– a day of presentations on the Snake and the issues that effect her– brings river rats to the banks of the Hoback every spring. Snake River Days, a yout watershed camp, and a 5th graders day on the river for all Teton County students.
